Winter Solstice

Yes! Today is the day when it’s perfectly acceptable in Sweden to shout out to your neighbours and your friends or even total strangers: “Nu vänder det!”, which means “Now it turns around” literally. The days will get longer, the light will come back, things in general will get better. How we HOPE this is true this year. 

Anyway. We found these pebbles at noon and checked how long their shadows were in relation to their heights, which was about six or seven times the height of each pebble. So mum said that with a pretty basic mathematical operation one could deduce the angle of the sun in the sky from this info. I said ok, you do that, but I bet there is an app for it. 

She looked at me and said Some things are cooler to do the old school way. I decided not to argue.
