Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel was somewhat interrupted this morning when the fire alarm sounded. We had to go outside into the snow. Needless to say I had gone down to breakfast without a jacket, never mind a coat. The hotel fairly quickly gave the relatively undressed amongst us a foil blanket. it was reasonably effective at reflecting back body heat.

We were outside for about an hour before we were cleared to go back into the dining room, which has a door straight onto the street. For another half hour or so that was as far as we got. We were offered a hot tea or coffee at this point, but resuming breakfast itself was a lost cause.

Many of the guests were taking photographs. Tower bridge is just behind the fire engines. What was quite amusing was the firemen were also taking photographs of themselves with Tower Bridge in the background. Reassuringly that suggests fire alarms are a fairly unusual occurrence at the hotel.

We had booked a taxi for after breakfast which we had to postpone. Eventually we were released into the hotel and got ready to go out. Lunch was booked at River Cafe, an Italian restaurant in Fulham. An excellent lunch after a disrupted morning.
