Pain d’Épices, Water Kefir

These were a couple of today’s snacks.

This morning we had some pain d’épices, which is a french spiced bread (similar to gingerbread). I make a couple loaves of it around the end of every year.

This afternoon, we had some pomegranate water kefir. Water kefir is a fermented (though not especially alcoholic) drink I’ve started experimenting with the past couple weeks. A second ferment with fruit gives it a light carbonation. This is my second batch with pomegranate (and I have finally gone through our mountain of pomegranates!), which is delicious.
