Spying

A popular myth that the large satellite dishes & golf balls at the southern end of the Ammer Lake near Munich were used by Americans for spying.

Work on it  started in 1963 to get it finished by the time the Summer Olympic Games were held in Munich in 1972 where there would be a huge demand on worldwide coverage. The first dish on the far left of the photo was finished in 1964 and operated by the German Post Service. It was a golf ball type. However, over the years it has suffered all sorts  of fates and has long been sold several times as it is out of date for modern communication.

Indeed, a USA owned company did own it for a while in their worldwide network of communication satellites operated for worldwide operating charities and the UN. It was even put under a preservation order in 1999 and Munich University has been trying to restore it for use in several European educational space research projects. The golf ball was renewed recently but a storm on 28th February this year ripped it away!

Not my photo but Angie's. She was on a day out with her mother and one of her sisters. It was mother's birthday, and they did a tour to Weilheim which is close by. I have not had any contact with mother for years because of her vile fascist views. I am told that with increasing years, aches and pains and more dependence on the help of others together with the chaos even she can see Trump is inflicting on the world, she is getting to be more moderate and regretting some of her views. I wait to be convinced but welcome the news.
