The edge (part 2)

Sequel to Dec 24th blip. That green mound is the railing to the field drainage channel which 3 days ago appeared to be in the centre of the river. 
The men on the sluice gates have done their job and the river path has been reclaimed. There is probably more water still rolling this way from Bedfordshire but at least the river and its relief channel should be prepared for it. 
The main concern now is determining whether the green shroud that envelops the railing is marsh pennywort or floating pennywort. If it's marsh pennywort then no problem. The worry is floating pennywort, introduced as an ornamental plant in the 1980's and banned from sale in 2014. It is extremely invasive growing up to 20cm a day, obstructing boat traffic and reducing the oxygen level in the river which severely affects fish and invertebrate life. If identified it needs to be reported as it shares the same status as Japanese hogweed. So be aware!
