Zwischen Den Jahren/Between The Years
This is what we call the time between Xmas & New Year. Normally everyone is on holiday and for those of us who are working, it's usually a good time to catch up on things we've been putting off.
However, I came in to this lovely E-Mail - written in glorious bureaucratic German. The title was "Reminder". I didn't even know we had a requirement. Basically what this says is that there is some security work to do on a program that my team supports. And it HAS to be finished by the 31st December.
The fact that I'm alone this week led me to make an executive decision. I wrote back saying "Nope. I'm not doing this on my own." And I copied my team in on my answer.
I could do it, but I'd be at the very edge of my German and there's no way I'm signing off on something that affects my team without input from them. I'm a systems engineer not a manager. Plus the idea of wading through the 90 odd questions (all written like this) and having to justify my responses was way more Mondayish than I cared for.
I checked on the team that sent us it. Surprise, surprise, they are all on holiday this week. And I'll bet the company will not go bankrupt if it is postponed for a couple of weeks.
Sorry. Boring work story. But it's been pouring with rain all day and I had nothing else.
