On the Penguin Trail

It was really cold this morning but warmed up a bit to reach 18c. It was great to have blue sky's again. I had some library books to take back to the library so decided to go the central library in the city. While I was there I would hut some Penguins down. It was really busy in the central city, but did find a park near the Art Gallery.

The top shots are off : The Great Explorer
Created by: Jeremy Sauzier
Design Inspiration
This happy penguin embodies the determined spirit of adventure and celebrates the dedication of peaceful exploration in the great Southern Continent. ‘The Great Explorer’ is guided by the stars of the night sky, has a compass fixed towards the South Pole and Antarctica at the centre of the map. Take a closer look and you might catch a glimpse of the Ellsworth mountain range in Antarctica reflected in those goggles!

The Bottom left are off: High Waters: Created by: Georgette Thompson
Design Inspiration
Georgette’s design is inspired by the rising waters of climate change and the effects this has on the precious wildlife that relies on the delicate ecosystem of our oceans. The hoiho are shown diving for cover down into the depths of the ocean. They search for food, but the waters are empty. This design calls for reflection on the part we can play individually to protect our oceans and the hoiho.

The Bottom Shots Right are off: Pūrākaunui: Created by: Chris Pole
Design Inspiration
Chris Pole’s design is based on a photograph he took early one morning at Pūrākaunui Bay in the Catlins region, where he had the fortune of sharing the water during a surf with a hoiho. The artist has hand-painted his design onto the sculpture’s surface.

If all is well I will go over to Akaroa tomorrow and come back after the New Year. I will catch up when I can. Happy New Year to you all.
