Wednesday was an icy day when going for an afternoon walk wasn't the wisest option. Nevertheless I did my best penguin shuffling / waddling impression down my street, across the main road, and down the farm track onto the Canal towpath.

Much of the Canal itself was frozen with only a few patches of water in its liquid form where the birds gathered to swim, preen and eat. The towpath was mostly covered with a thin veneer of ice which made even shuffling and waddling difficult, by which time it was easier to continue than attempt to turn around and go back.

I stopped for a while opposite Allandale and took a few photos, this one of a young swan and coot making an elegant pair, and another extra of a pair of mallards,
