Happy New Blipping Year

After yesterday’s stay in the house to avoid ice, Mrs.K. made sure I got out today. It seemed quite safe on the nearest footpath. Just a 5,000 step walk instead of the usual 8,000 plus.

On such a short excursion it was good to find a fungus which we can’t recall having seen before.

This type is called a Crust fungus and we are reasonably sure it is a Stereum. But there is a very large number of Crust fungi and even with several field guides and Google it is hard to be sure of identity.
Crust fungi are not edible. It might be Stereum rugosum, Common Leather Bracket.
