THINGS TO KNOW UP NORTH (1 of 10)

Although the north is actually not too dissimilar to the south, or particularly far away from it, there are many aspects of the northern life that southerners simply don’t understand.
If you hail from the south and plan on stepping foot up north anytime soon you might need to prepare yourself for a bit of a culture shock.

1. Speaking To Strangers
Southerners (whether it’s a fair assumption or not) have the reputation of not being the friendliest bunch especially when it comes to acknowledging strangers.
Whether it’s simply smiling at someone in the street or speaking to your fellow commuters on public transport – it’s just not something that is regularly seen.
It’s a stark contrast up in the north.
You don’t have to worry about making awkward eye contact and digging your head into your mobile phones because most northerners will actually – deep breath – be willing to talk to you.
It isn’t always the most stimulating conversation, but sometimes it’s nice to have a friendly chat about the weather on your morning commute – this is a concept which may seem quite alien to a born and bred southerner.
