Drill

This is my last tractor blip for a few days, as we are heading up to London after lunch to go to a concert at the Wigmore Hall this evening.

This monster tractor has a drill on the back full of spring barley seed. However, it's not headed for a field but back to the farmyard where the engineer has just arrived to see if he can fix the automatic steering. You may have seen a News item a few weeks ago about cars that steer themselves - well, it arrived some years ago in farming. This tractor can steer itself to within a margin of 2cm using satellites. That means that there are no overlaps or gaps between rows of seeds or applications of fertiliser. The tractor still has a "tractor driver" but his job is more like "computer operative" nowadays :-)
