My Life in Pictures

The Plight of Musicians

Today I have prepared a collage of shots of various musicians as a statement of support of musicians generally whose livelihoods have been prejudiced by the UK Gov.
International touring is important economically to the music industry and it is relatively standard in the industry for musicians to have visa free travel for a fixed period.
Apparently during the Brexit negotiations the EU offered the UK visa free touring for musicians as part of the deal but the UK did not want to offer reciprocal benefits to EU citizens so the offer was rejected.
Now artists will have to apply for a visa to visit the EU for more than 30 days, provide proof of savings and a sponsorship certificate from an event organiser.
An online petition is now in place calling on the UK Govt to negotiate a free cultural work permit that gives artists visa free travel throughout the 27 EU states for music, touring professionals, bands, musicians, artists, TV and sports celebrities that tour the EU to perform shows and events & a carnet exception for touring equipment.
I do hope that the current UK Gov's draconian & xenophobic attitude to freedom of movement can be modified to avoid economic ruin and stifling of our creative industries.

Meanwhile its a cold bleak day but with many peeps out walking and so many not being good at social distancing I think it is safer to stay indoors.
