Fables

This pair of decorative wrought iron gates in Dunfermline were made in 1995 by Phil Johnson and I think the strange creatures illustrate work by James 1 of Scotland and Robert Henryson. James was born in Dunfermline in 1394 and wrote several things including The kingis Quair. Henryson who was a prominent poet of the time also lived in Dunfermline and around 1480 wrote The Morall Fabillis of Esope the Phrygian so I presume the creatures come from his fables.
The gates are at the entrance to the gardens of the old Abbot House and lead to the Abbey.
