Handsome Bloke!

No photographs taken today but what you've got instead is a photo that was sent, today, by my friend Bill Bell who was with me when we spent 7 weeks in Santa Clara (Silicon Valley) January/February 1984.
It's only 40 miles South of San Francisco so you can imagine we had a whale of a time as well as working very hard on a technicians course with ROLM Corporation, which was taken over by IBM and then Siemens so got lost in the takeovers.
This was a day off, can't remember if it was a public holiday or a weekend but we did the tourist stuff. Got banged up in solitary in Alcatraz Prison, Pier 39, Broadway (not for the faint hearted), China Town, drove down Lombard Street. The photograph was taken at Coit Tower where you can get great panoramic views of the city. The car, by the way, is an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.
Can't decide between San Francisco and Istanbul for my favourite cities in the world but I really enjoyed being in both.
If you can be bothered to read on a little story;
One of the ROLM employees was leaving to go to a rival company so, standard procedure, he had to clear his desk and get paid for his notice time but not allowed to be at work. He gave me two tickets for a Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings concert at Cow Palace, Daly City, which is about half way between Santa Clara and San Francisco.
He said they are for the dress circle so black tie and DJ's would be in order but if I didn't bring any then a lounge suit would be ok.
We went off dressed up, me in a very smart camel coat (it was California but still quite cool in the evenings). So when we got to our seats we looked around and found we were the only two, out of about 10,000, people not dressed like cowboys!!!!!!! Everyone was in jeans, jackets of all descriptions, Stetson hats etc. It was a great joke and we all had a laugh about it back in the training school the next day.
