Chantry House - previously a RC school

L3 Day 26 - A walk round the local area and later did some research about the history of this house. A Roman Catholic School was opened in Chantry House, Fairfax Road in 1884, this was run by sisters of the Charity of St Paul. There was a school on the ground floor and the chapel above. In 1927 a new St Marks CE school was built in nearby in St Marks Road this became a secondary school in 1929 until Teddington School was built in 1963; at this point the Diocese of Westminster bought the site and it became Sacred Heart RC Primary School. Chantry House was used as a church hall for the Sacred Heart RC Church on Kingston Road until 2006 when it was sold and is now a very attractive private house.
