Out and About

On the plateau

Today, I hiked up to the Plateau again. Our early settlers discovered they could grow wheat on this plateau without irrigation. Dryland farming is pretty amazing. Cool winters provide all of the moisture the soil will have for the rest of the year. No irrigation required.

The plateau is covered with hundreds of acres of wheat farms. I look across at this farm here and wonder how it came to be and who chooses this life?
