Queen Eleanor Cross, Northampton

I wanted something appropriate for my 300th blip, and knowing that we would be in Northampton today I looked on the internet to see what I could find. I discovered that the Queen Eleanor Cross in Northampton was restored 300 years ago in 1713 after 400 years of neglect, so I decided on that as a subject.

When it was restored, a stone plaque was placed nearby to commemorate the restoration. The plaque is still there, but the Latin inscription has become very worn, so when the monument was restored again in 1984, a new plaque was made with the original wording translated into English.

I blipped the Geddington Eleanor Cross on 31st December.
