Journey forward

By Popsicle

Tome, a weighty one.

Roberts Birds of Southern Africa, has been continuously in print since 1940.
This is the VII th. edition published in 2005.
The scope and depth of biological information in this edition far exceeds that of any previous.
It covers all 951 species recorded in the region, with 80 new plates of fabulous illustrations.
It is a benchmark publication and will be a standard reference for many years to come.
I have enjoyed a great amount of pleasure from its pages - sometimes just browsing, others reading and learning.
A field guide it certainly is not, weighing in excess of 5 kilograms.
The raptor illustrated on the cover is the African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer)
