Andrew Carnegie was the Scot who left Dunfermline and lived the classic rags to riches story in Pittsburgh.
By all accounts he wasn't the most popular boss in the world but back then you didn't become the richest man in the world by being a nice guy.
He then became a major philanthropist and gave away most of his cash. A lot was used to build public libraries including a major contribution to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.
I was coming out of there today when I noticed this stone. The William Bilsland mentioned was one of the Glasgow family which established the Bilsland bakery, still a landmark on the city skyline.
