Not so interesting today, but exciting progress..

Over 2 years 5 months since our house fell down in the earthquake, the new house is starting.
To cover for riverbed, ancient glacial plain and swamp land, and future seismic events, the piles number 123 and are being driven down to a minimum of 9.5m across the site.
It is a mind numbing process with 157 "hits" on the last pile, 178 on this pile- which leads to approx 20606 manmade after shocks and noise disturbances for the neighbourhood. Terrible!
Luckily we are renting next door so we are the closest effected but it is pretty soul destroying as a profession. One boy they call "cannon fodder" stands under the pile as the large block falls down on the pile. The cable whips around and clangs against the digger arm and is generally dangerous and unpredictable especially when the concrete in the piles fails and they smash and collapse which has happend a number of times. We are not allowed to be within 9m of the machine and yet this boy is right under it. I hope his mother doesnt come down to deliver his lunch!
