Snowy Sunday

It was my turn to take on the duty of clearing the snow in front of the house.

You are legally obliged to do this in Germany.  If anyone has an accident in front of your house due to uncleared snow, you are liable.  Of course, since it was relatively early, I was the first to have cleared  up.  Later, round about 10 this morning, and all you could hear was the sound of snow-shovels.

It would be different on a workday.  The clearing would have been done much earlier.

Anyway, it was quite pretty out in the snow.  Untrodden and making those delightful k-nirsch-ing noises.

You haven't forgotten the German verb knirschen or the noun (das) Knirschen?  The rule here is that you always pronounce the "K".  German really doesn't have silent letters like Englisch.  And it's Sunday, let's stop the language lesson now.
