Dusk

It is only recently that we have noticed the large gatherings of rooks at dusk.  This photo was takes from inside our kitchen door at the side of the house, they were just a stone's throw away.  The majority looked fairly settled with only a small few coming and going.  Occasionally another group would appear overhead, usually not reacting with the settled group, but flying off again.  Looking out from the front of the house revealed that all the roadside trees on both sides were similarly populated by rooks. They looked settled for the night, but a few minutes later when I looked again they were all gone.  It looks as though they are gathering in trees close to their roosting place before they all move off to that destination, which I must search out.
