Curse of the Granny Ring

Oh God's of cycling, why do you see fit to constantly eject my chain whenever I need to employ the granny ring?? It invariably leaves me stuck in a field at the bottom of a hill, wrestling with an oily chain and cursing at the sky.

And then I still have to climb the bloody hill.
