Rhubarb

I walked up to the shops and bought 3 stalks of Forced Rhubarb at The Fruit Stall. It is a vegetable , high in Vitamins C & K, the stalks are usually cooked with sugar (ginger, cinnamon or nutmeg) and eaten as a dessert.

This Rhubarb is grown in Forcing Sheds, this helps make it more tender than that grown outdoors.

An Area known as The Rhubarb Triangle (PDO) lies between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell.  In the 19th Century,  fields were fertilised with horse manure and woollen waste from the mungo and shoddy mills of nearby Batley and Dewsbury.

Pre-Covid Wakefield Council held an Annual Rhubarb Festival in February.
