Battle

Touch of history today: noticed the 'account of the battle' board again up at Sherrifmuir.
This was not the most notable battle of the Jacobite period. It settled nothing, and was in effect a score draw, with a resultant loss of life on both sides.
Every November, flowers are left at the gathering stone near this board to commemorate the fallen.
Often think about soldiers' experience in battle when up there.

From a song about the Battle:

There's some say that we wan,
And some say that they wan,
And some say that nane wan at a', man;
But ae thing I'm sure,
That at Sheriff-muir
A battle there was, that I saw, man;
And we ran, and they ran; and they ran, and we ran;
And we ran, and they ran awa', man.
