Tribute to Andre Kertesz (1894–1985)

André Kertész was a Hungarian photographer who emerged as one of the most influential practitioners of the medium. Valuing emotional impact over technique, he famously remarked, “I just walk around, observing the subject from various angles until the picture elements arrange themselves into a composition that pleases my eye.”

In his later life he turned to a polaroid camera and shot the nick-nacks in his flat he had collected over the years to help him get over the loss of his dear wife Elizabeth.
