Mynydd Maen

"The greatest illusion, said the mole, is that life should be perfect."
Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse.

An overdue walk on Mynydd Maen to enjoy the sunshine and explore some more of its' industrial heritage today. Once up onto the common land, easily distinguishable by the widespread bracken, I headed for one of the old disused quarries. Even now it seems strange that there was so much industrial activity in Cwmbran, high up here on the hillside. The long 'straight' incline that runs between the spoil heaps and down to the canal is a giveaway of course, and there are so many other old quarries, disused reservoirs and sundry other buildings on the hillside. The industry is long gone, its scars left the obvious sign that people worked up here at anything but farming.
