Piggyback / Huckepack

These two hogging the limelight again... They were having fun on the way back from the bakery, basically the only place open in town, having pigged out on iced buns.

The phrase appears to go back to a sixteenth century term ‘pick-a-back‘, from something being pitched (thrown) onto a person‘s back to be carried.

So nothing to do with pigs. Nor, disappointingly, do Germans call it ‘Schweinrucke’, though I think it sounds better!
