2015-07-26 (Day 207) The Falkirk Wheel

The Falkirk Wheel is the world's only rotating boat lift. It links two canals in Central Scotland - the Union Canal (which goes from Edinburgh to the Wheel) and the Forth And Clyde Canal. That one goes from Grangemouth to Glasgow, passing the wheel.

The Union Canal is borne along on the viaduct you see here, the Forth and Clyde runs left to right. The Wheel exists to let ships transfer from one canal to the other without the requirement for lots of locks, which would take up more land than was available.

Marie and I went for a walk there this afternoon, a walk which was cut short by the rain.

As for the photo, this was processed using Topaz Glow to get the whirly lines along with a bit of desaturation.
