Life's tangled skein

2017-06-16 (Day 167) Polmont Kirk

There are two Polmont Old Parish kirsk in this picture.

The one in the foreground was built in 1734, having been first mooted in 1649, when petitioners sought a church "to be built on a site east of Jinkabout".

Now, I don't know the origin of Jinkabout yet, but it still exists in the name of a bridge that crosses the River Avon just beside the oil refinery. I plan to investigate it more.

Anyway, behind that is the more moder, 1844, relacement church. It is rare in that it has two spires at the front - an uncommon feature of church building in the area.
