Andy Tang's Photo Journal

By AndyTang

That was a long day...

I woke up in Hong Kong this morning at 7am (11pm GMT yesterday) and managed to finish packing, go to lunch with my parents and uncle, before being escorted to the airport.

The photo was taken on the bus ride to the airport to show that Hong Kong is not the concrete jungle we are use to seeing (like the panoramic shot I took of the skyline) and there are mountains, trees and greenery!

After a delayed 13 hour flight, with slow border control (funny being asked where I had been, then being asked if I lived in the UK), then a long wait for luggage, then just missing the car park shuttle bus, I got home at 11pm GMT, 24 hours after waking up.

I learnt several things on this trip! A bit of my family history and culture, but more importantly that I will never fly Cathay Pacific again! Why, I hear you cry?

Well first off the person on the check in desk was rude. My luggage was a few kilos over, but he made me decant items from my luggage. Fine, but I had a little rucksack with barely anything as my hand luggage, but rather than use common sense and say fine, I popped it into my rucksack, so it's still the same weight on the plane!

Boarding was a free for all, they called rear rows first, then stopped the announcements, so as I waited patiently, any row was boarding, causing chaos getting into the plane.

When I get to my seat, there was no space in the overhead locker (I was in row 60), my hand luggage was stored in business in row 24.

We were given menus, but by the time it got to me, one of the meals had ran out, and the other was switched out so the menu was wrong. Being told the beef had run out, I had the choice of fish or veggie. I asked for fish, but got a beef which had "run out".

The stewardesses were pretty arrogant, pushing past, climbing on my seat to get to the overhead locker, even jumping the queue for the toilet under the pretence of changing the toilet roll!

Next time I will use any other airline rather than Cathay Pacific.
