Guard against the cold

It is lovely that the British Museum should be so close to the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, because we seem to be making rather frequent visits these days.

And the British Museum is truly gorgeous: always something new and beguiling to see. Last week, I was transfixed by a Roman cook's bun-pans, this time it was discovering an Etruscan woman's face (Seianti Hanunia Tlesnasa) built up from her skull to compare with the life-size polychrome effigy on her tomb.

And when you have finished enjoying inside, there is always more to discover outdoors.

This philosophical twosome were out in the drippy freezy misty afternoon, guarding the British Museum in its entirety. From the cold, I assume.

Now, I'm sure it's quite a nice job in summer - looking after the BM and protecting the world's heritage - but on a day as dank and chilly as this one it must be quite a job to keep your spirits up.

Still, they were managing to crack a wry joke or two in their brave yellow tabards..
