26 Jan 2021

For the last two years, my partner and I have observed 26th January at Church Point.  It's a small gathering of like minded people to observe the day.  This year there were a few more people than the last.

The day starts for many with a very slow bike ride from Manly to Church Point with a few pick up points along the way.

There is no flag waving, no finger pointing just some local history told by some of the local mob (Neil Evers pictured - Aunty Clair could not make it this year).  We sang a lullaby (very badly) accompanied by didgeridoo (thanks Mitch).

A copy of the Uluru Statement from the Heart was available for anyone who'd like to remind themselves of a possible way forward.  One day....

If you'd like more information, or to join next year visit the Ride with Aboriginal Peoples Facebook page.

The extra is a photo I took today from the graveyard.  The church is long gone (demolished 1923) but the graveyard is still there.  There are apparently also some middens in the grounds.
