2018-07-14 (Day 195) Caterpillar Exhibit

In September 1986 Caterpillar announced a £62 million investment in its successful Tannochside plant. In January, the company announced it had changed its mind and the plant was to be shut down. No reason for the change of heart was given.

Shocked workers organised a sit-in which - while it could not keep the plant open - did result in better redundancy terms for the employees.

The land on which the plant stood is now covered by housing, a few shops and a business park. But across the road from the shops. this model has appeared.
