Foggy Bottom

This is the view towards Pulteney Bridge, across the River Avon, in Bath.

Parade Gardens is on the left; the Recreation Ground is on the right.

The large building is The Empire. Built as a hotel in 1901, it was taken over by the Admiralty in World War 2 (No breach of OPSEC; they moved out many years ago and the place is now a salubrious block of luxury apartments).

The dismal stands of the Bath Rugby ground stand in stark contrast to Bath abbey, which is out of shot to the left. With other options for Bath Rugby to remain in Bath, it is high time the Recreation ground was returned to being an open space, accessible to all.

The January floods over-topped the riverside pathway to the right at their peak, the highest I have seen the river in the 17 years I've lived here.

To give you an idea of how misty it is; the whole of Lansdown, Camden Crescent and the heights of Beacon Hill have disappeared!
