Diamond Ayes!

It's been a busy old week for Wee Maw and Paw. They got vaccinated on Tuesday and today they celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

60 years ago today (ish*) Wee Maw and Paw said, "I do" and were married in Coalburn Parish Church by the Rev Brian Cross conducting his very first marriage at his very first posting as a Church of Scotland minister.

* The Ish Bit - for those unfamiliar with the tale, not everything went to plan. Let me explain....

A few days after the confetti had blown away and the happy couple had headed off down south on honeymoon, my mum's bridesmaid, her sister, my Auntie Janet, was scratching her head.

Something wasn't right, they'd missed something and she couldn't quite put her finger on it....... then it dawned on her.

The register!

In all the excitement of the wedding day and with a new minister in charge, nobody had signed the marriage register!!!

In the days when phones were a luxury and mobiles were a work of science fiction there was no way to contact the newlyweds, so when they duly arrived back a week or so later Auntie Janet was sitting on the doorstep waiting.

With hardly a moment to drop off their case, she promptly marched them right up to the manse to get everything sorted once and for all.

Happy 60th Anniversary mum and dad x
