Peat Works

I don’t think I’ve blipped this before, probably because its not all that photogenic.  Its just off the main track in my regular walk round the local nature reserve.   This shows some remains/foundations of where they had a peat cutting works right up until the 1960s.  The area is protected by the EU Habitats Directive.
As a result of Brexit a number of organisations like RSPB, Friends of the Earth, etc. have been concerned about relaxation of these protections now that the UK is no longer bound by them.  However I’ve just learned that the Scottish Government have already passed legislation that these standards and protections will remain, and if possible be exceeded.  So my walking route is safe.
