Hamamelis, Late January

I remember when I was young being taken to see, and to smell the scent of the Hamamelis ('Witch Hazel') blooms in Kew Gardens around the end of January.

I recall going back there many years later at the same time of year and being disappointed to find the blooms were all over.

I am glad to say though that right now, at the end of January, the flowers on the specimen in our back garden are well and truly in their prime.
