Big garden birdwatch

The last weekend in January is the RSPB’s big garden birdwatch, and I have taken part many times over the 40+ years it’s been running. It’s a bit of a standing joke in the family that this is the weekend that all the birds go on holiday as we often see significantly fewer birds than usual. Our garden backs onto the railway embankment and so usually has a good number of birds to distract me when I’m sat at the computer.
Today’s count in an hours watching was this solitary robin!

Photographed through the spotting scope on my iPhone - with a little bracket that was a Christmas present a year or two ago, and a chopstick to wedge it at the right angle as my scope has a zoom eyepiece.
