Frozen surface of Dalehead Tarn

This one really only looks sharp large on black

Walked the Newlands Horseshoe today - no snow (that's forecast for tonight) but it was clear the temperature of the ground at height has been well below freezing for some time now, with some of the small tarns so thick in ice you could skate on them.

Took loads of icy textures, but really loved this one of the single rock poking through the layer of ice. I also liked the extra, where bubbles under the ice had got trapped within its thickness.

Initially I favoured the bubbles shot, as I think it has more initial impact, but after looking for some time, the subtlety of the main shot, and the contrast of the cold tonality of the snow and the warm tone of the rock won me over.
