A walk in the forest

Kauri dieback is affecting kauri trees  (a New Zealand native which is among the world's mightiest trees growing to over 50 m tall with trunk girth up to 16 m and living for over 2000 years),  Its a fungus-like disease that can kill kauri trees of any age. Spores in the soil infect kauri roots and damage the tissues that carry nutrients within the tree. The majority of Kauri grow in the North of New Zealand.  Some of the forests have been closed to the public but others have a disinfectant gate to clean shoes and equipment before entering and on leaving the forest.
