Greylag Geese

About 30 years ago, these geese (Anser anser) were relatively uncommon in Lewis and Harris (having been previously quite widespread). Now they have increased dramatically and hundreds can be found in almost every village. I have been told that 6 geese eat as much as 1 sheep, and for this reason (along with their droppings) are not very popular with many crofters. I quite like their resilience, however, and in flight their call seems the essence of wild country. I couldn't get very close today - perhaps I will borrow my daughter's 400 mm lens and try again!
