Ending

I came across this during my usual walk and I was not sure whether to post it or not but it was lying on the ground amongst some trees and I just wondered what happened that it ended up here.  It was a bitterly cold afternoon with small flakes of snow flying past horizontally.  I looked up my book of birds, is it a hooded crow?
