A day out turned into an epic drive around the countryside.

We started off driving over the moor to the A.9 and up to Aviemore which I'm sad to say was just as depressing it had been when I was last there about twenty years ago. Very run down.

Then we drove north towards Inverness but got fed up with the uniformity of the A.9 and turned off along a single track B class road heading west passing by some really interesting houses and scenery (and al ot of Highland coos) along the way.

We passed The Artist's Cottage designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh along the way and even road signs warning you to watch out for Red Squirrels crossing the road.

A turn North took us up the east bank of Loch Ness to Inverness where after a short stop for provisions we headed south down the west loch side by Drumnadrichit to Fort Augustus and over to Spean Bridge at which point it wa sgetting dark before reaching Dalwhinnie Distillery (closed by that time of night) where we rejoined the A.9. and a quick nip over the moor back to Kinloch Rannoch.

We were going for 9 hours, drove about 300 miles and took many pictures along the way but this is my choice for the day.

Loch Ness about 6pm just getting a bit dark.
