George, Mildred and Willow

Our son sent this photo as George the emu has at last decided to sit on the eggs that Mildred has been busy laying for the past six weeks. There were twenty eggs in total but today our son removed some as there were far too many to keep warm.

George will turn the eggs every day and some come to the edges. If there are too many then they will get too cold. In the extra photo George has his head down and last years chick Willow is lying with him. Mildred is in the foreground. It’s a little dark in the enclosure and so it’s not the best photo but we wanted to mark the day. If all goes well then there may be chicks around at Easter.

It’s become very cold here and we are having frosty nights which are quite rare.
