Twig

Although this magpie in the garden briefly picked up the twig in front of it, I think its purpose was food-seeking rather than nesting. However, if it was to choose to nest in the garden, this would be a good thing according to West Sussex folklore:

They say that a tree with a magpie's nest in it was never
known to fall. The instinct of the bird may lead it to fix upon a firmly-rooted tree...although the assumed fact is stated as proof of its
supernatural knowledge and of its being in league with the powers of
darkness.
