Heavens Gate

At the summit of Sidown Hill is a mid-18th century grade II listed building known as Heaven's Gate which is hidden by the trees covering the top of the hill. It overlooks Highclere Castle at the bottom of the hill and has a large view of the landscape of West Berkshire. The Grade II is a system used for old buildings, structures etc. In this case grade II stands for: "buildings that are of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them" it is the highest of the 3 grades used.
