Times Square, Gaza City

There are some strange examples of consumerism in Gaza, such as overly-ostentatious hotels, showy shopping malls, and lavish apartment buildings. They are grotesquely juxtaposed with bomb craters, dilapidated buildings, and the sub-standard housing many people are forced live in. As the tunnel industry creates new millionaires, the gap between rich and poor is growing.

One such example is the big screen which was put up on Omar El Moktar St sometime last summer. After dark, it flashes images over the square, advertising products most people cannot afford to buy.
