Flower Friday. : : African Daisy

We had a brief and confused burst of spring after the fire in October. Now most of our surviving plants seem to have decided they've already done spring but they aren't moving on either. We're in a state of suspended animation wondering if our massive oak trees will survive.

This African daisy (Arctosis) has been quietly growing next to our front steps and has decided that it needs to make up for all the other plants that are either gone or dormant. It is loaded with buds and quite an unusual combination of colors. I like they grey foliage. If we could remember where we got it, we'd get a few more!

I planted several of the succulents that Spike jumped on and they seem to be doing fine. We're in an every other day rain pattern, so they should get nicely watered in tomorrow. When it rains tomorrow I'll browse the internet for some shade structure ideas. We seem to have hit a wall when it comes to figuring out what to do.No matter how well we know how hot it will get in the summer, it's hard to be too motivated when the daytime temperature barely goes above 50!

I gave a whole grocery bag full of oranges to my friend Tobi at coffee this morning. Mamadou lit the heaters and it was very pleasant on the patio at Cafe Frida despite the frigid temperatures.  Even in a group of friends who don't usually have much trouble keeping up a conversation on a wide range of subjects, the talk was almost exclusively about who had been vaccinated, and how they got their appointment.

We drove by the fairgrounds where there is a big clinic ,but the story was the same....go to the website and sign up for a (nonexistent) appointment. At least John DOES have an appointment three more weeks to wait....
