Suddenly the weather seems much more spring-like, and by this afternoon there was even some pleasantly warm sunshine. The early crocus immediately opened up, their flowers only slightly battered by a week of snow and hard frosts. Hopefully, if the mild conditions persist, we'll see the first few bees soon.

Pete and I met with some other volunteers to look at three sites where it might be possible to carry out biodiversity enhancements in the next few year. I'd allowed a couple of hours for the site visits, but we ended up being out for four hours! Lots of possibilities, though much will come down to the funds available through government schemes such as ELMS.  It was lovely to hear the distant drumming of a great spotted woodpecker - always an optimistic sound.
